Ground-handling vehicles inside Bengaluru International Airport could soon run on bio-diesel. This will not only reduce diesel consumption, but also boost the production and use of bio-fuel. The State’s Bio-diesel Task Force has proposed to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), that vehicles currently using diesel at the airport should convert to bio-diesel. “We have held talks with AAI officials and got a positive response. If the AAI permits the use of bio-diesel inside the airport, Bengaluru airport will be the first airport in the country to do so,” Task Force chairman Y. B. Ramakrishna told DC.
“If the several vehicles at the airport, including tractors, mini-lorries and buses, switch to bio-diesel, it will not only reduce fossil fuel consumption, but also increase production of bio-fuel. Most of the airport vehicles run for 24 hours and we are trying to tap the higher quantity of diesel users,” Mr Ramakrishna said.
