Panel orders airlines to pay back with interest

Bengaluru: Additional district consumer disputes redressal forum has fined Kingfisher Airlines for failing to refund a ticket amount within the stipulated five days. The airlines now has to pack back with interest and costs of litigation.
Ashik Krupakar, a resident of J P Nagar had booked an air ticket from Hubli to Bengaluru on a Kingfisher flight for October 5, 2010. He had paid ` 6,002 for this ticket. But on October 4, Krupakar cancelled his flight ticket. Airlines had assured him they would refund the same amount within five working days after deducting Rs 750, the cancellation charge. But even after repeated reminders, emails, notices, the airlines didn't refund the amount for a few months. Krupakar then moved to consumer redressal forum seeking Rs 50,000 compensation for mental harassment and Rs 15,000 towards the legal expenses. The forum served Kingfisher airlines a notice. But the company didn’t contest the complaint. The forum has now directed Kingfisher to repay the ticket money at 12 per cent interest from October 4, 2010 itself and cost of the litigation.
