Smuggler arrested at airport

New Delhi: A Delhi resident was arrested at IGI airport on Tuesday morning for carrying memory cards worth over Rs 1.11 crore.
Customs officials said they had received a tip-off that the accused, Vijay Kapoor, would be arriving in India with a large cache of memory cards. "The passenger with Indian passport number J-5409416 arrived in Delhi from Hong Kong on Jet Airways flight 9W 077. Our officials started trailing him from the aerobridge itself. When he was about to exit the airport, his baggage was X-rayed. On finding something suspicious in his baggage, it was put through a more stringent physical check in which we recovered 57,740 pieces of 2GB memory cards and another 10,240 pieces of 4GB memory cards. The total value of these was estimated at Rs 1,11,65,160," said Vijay Goel, commissioner of customs, IGI airport.
Officials said Kapoor has visited Hong Kong 14 times since March 2011 and had carried memory cards back to India on two occasions.
