Nagpur: Taking cognisance of one more deer death at the airport, Mihan India Limited (MIL), which operates Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, has scrapped the contract of the present animal trapper and has also decided to blacklist him.
The private contractor had been given the responsibility of guarding the runway, keeping away stray and wild animals from the operational area especially during landings and take-offs and even trap and relocate the animals in nearby forest areas. However, the contractor has failed to give desired results, a senior MIL official said.
MIL has now decided to appoint a team of expert animal trappers who will also guard the runway and operational area. The new contractor will take charge of city airport from December 16 and has assured to clear the airport of unwanted animal menace, senior airport director V K Yadava told TOI.
