KF pilot to face music

Following a runway incursion incident involving aircraft belonging to Kingfisher and SpiceJet, the director general of civil aviation (DGCA) has pulled out the Kingfisher pilot from flying aircraft until the enquiry is completed.
On Monday, a SpiceJet flight was in its last stage of landing at Chennai airport when an alert air traffic controller (ATC) noticed the entry of the Kingfisher flight into the runway and asked the SpiceJet pilot to miss the approach, thereby averting a possible mid-air collision.
While the Kingfisher flight, bound to Coimbatore, had 57 passengers on board, the SpiceJet flight from Hyderabad was carrying 112 passengers. The SpiceJet flight was only 2.5 miles from landing when it was asked to go around.
“Preliminary investigations show that the Kingfisher pilot was instructed by ATC to stay at the holding point, but for some reasons, he had gone and lined up at the runway. Both pilots of Kingfisher have been grounded,” said DGCA E.K. Bharat Bhushan.
