More helipad facilities to attract investors

Pune The efforts of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to attract investors by making helipad facilities available to them seem to be paying off. Recently, a team of investors from the US, which arrived here to look for land in Chakan, was pleasantly surprised to find a chopper taxi service at its disposal, thanks to an MIDC helipad.
“The chopper services came in handy when the Posco team was in the state. The entire team was taken to various locations in a chopper. We are looking at more such companies making use of these services,’’ said K Shivaji, chief executive officer of MIDC. The Korean steel major — Pohang Iron and Steel Company (Posco), the world’s largest steel maker — has 500 acres of land in Vile Bhagad, Raigad district.
“The state has seen good investment in agriculture, tourism, information technology, automobiles and manufacturing sectors this year and the high-power committee has approved investments to the tune of Rs 1.11 lakh crore. Almost 3,000 companies, especially MNCs, are waiting to invest here,” he added.
Of the 233 MIDC regions in the state, 22 have operational helipad services. The state is looking to improve usage and increase taxi chopper services. “Choppers are available for various sites in the state, which works for us as well as the investors,’’ said Shivaji.
In Pune, 1-1.5 hectares have been demarcated for helipads at Chakan Phase II and Hinjewadi Phase III.
