One caught smuggling gold at airport

Pune: Pune Customs officials arrested yet another passenger for trying to smuggle gold. Faiyaz Ahmed Saipoddin Khadia (33), who was allegedly smuggling 1.23 kg gold valued at Rs 25.72 lakh, is from Karwar and is the second person from Karnataka to be arrested for smuggling gold, the first one was arrested in November.
Khadia, who landed at Pune International Airport from an Air India Dubai flight early Saturday morning, was intercepted by Customs officials from Air Intelligence Wing at the green channel. “He was found to have concealed four packets containing gold ornaments weighing 1.225 kg kept under the left pocket of his trousers, inside the underpants,” the remand application stated.
Khadia was remanded in 14-day magisterial custody till December 23.
