New Delhi: The Prime Minister’s office has written to the civil aviation ministry asking to table the Civil Aviation Bill in 6 months on Monday.
Highly-placed sources have told Zeenews that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s office believes that the Bill should be ready in the given stipulated time in order to rescue the cash-strapped sector.
Earlier, the airline chiefs met the PM last month. They had sought rationalisation of jet fuel taxes that account for a significant portion of the revenue. Domestic players like Kingfisher, Jet Airways and Spicejet have all reported losses due to high operation cost.
The finance ministry has recently agreed to the proposal of allowing 26 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) by foreign airlines in the private carriers.
