New Delhi: Pilots of Air India-domestic (erstwhile Indian Airlines) called off their daylong strike late Saturday evening after a written assurance from the management that it would begin clearing the five months' salary and allowance dues from next week.
Earlier in the day, around 60 pilots had refused to fly, due to which more than 70 flights were cancelled. Delhi was the worst hit, accounting for over 95% of the cancellations, stranding hundreds of passengers who had to be accommodated elsewhere.
"The issue has been amicably resolved and all pilots are returning to work. Next week, we will get contingency funds from the government and give Rs 150 crore as two months' performance-linked incentive (PLI accounts for almost 85% of a pilot's total pay) to all employees," AI CMD Rohit Nandan said. "We will also try to pay one month's salary this month. In February, we will give one month's salary and PLI. After that when the airline's financial restructuring plan is cleared, all dues will be cleared."
