The Kangra airport in Himachal Pradesh is very important from the tourist point of view. Many domestic and international tourists fly here, not only to visit the picturesque mountain landscapes of Kangra district, but also to visit Dharamasala and McLeod Ganj which are important religious places, as it is considered the seat of Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama.
At present only Kingfisher Airlines flies an aircraft from Delhi to Kangra. This monopoly however has often burnt a deep hole in the pocket of the tourist. One ticket on the Kangra Delhi route often cost between Rs. 6000 to Rs. 10,000 and this varies according to tourist season. But now come March 2012, and competition will enter in the form of Religare Aviation Company who will fly its aircraft from Kangra to Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar.
This new entry will help not only in price correction, but will also greatly benefit local travelers. Though the prices for the flights by the new airline has not been decided yet, travelers and travel agents agree that ticket prices need to be reduced and the competition in the market, will benefit the tourist and also help bring more flyers for the airlines.
