New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) employed parliamentary tools to counter the moves by the government to frame rules for fixing user fees at major airports as also on the issue of the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010.
The Left parties are opposed to the rules framed by the government and submitted to Parliament for a mandatory 30-day period. In case there are no objections, these rules can be applied to enacted legislation.
In the just-concluded session, Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari upheld a notice re-submitted by CPI(M) member K.N. Balagopal objecting to the proposed rules for fixing user fees on the document tabled by the government in the monsoon session.
Referring to the motion given by the member to amend the Airports Authority of India (Major Airports) Development Fee Rules, 2011, on examination of the matter, the Chair announced on December 22 that the notices had not lapsed and would be listed accordingly.
