Kingfisher Airlines Still to Pay $11.4 Million Service Tax Arrears

New Delhi: Loss-making carrier Kingfisher Airlines Ltd. still owes 600 million rupees ($11.4 million) in service tax arrears to the Indian government, the head of a federal tax authority said Tuesday.
S.K. Goel, chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Customs, added that the airline has paid 200 million rupees in service tax this month as well as cleared part of its past arrears.
India's service tax authorities had in early December frozen 11 bank accounts of the airline for non-payment of service tax arrears of 800 million rupees, and threatened legal action against the company. The authorities lifted the freeze a week later after the airline paid part of its arrears.
