BIA uses bio-fuel for ground support

Bangalore: The Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) has become the first airport in India to adopt bio-fuel in its operations.
To improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) on Tuesday announced its partnership with Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board (KSBDB) for its operations at BIAL.
Through this partnership, BIAL will migrate to operations of its ground vehicles to bio-fuel supplied by KSBDB. “We’ve consciously taken this decision to implement and develop BIA into a green facility and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Deploying bio-fuel reduces carbon footprint, in comparison to use of fossil fuels. It is thus a responsible way to meet our energy needs. We are proud to have partnered with KSBDB to create an enabling and sustainable environment,” said Sanjay Reddy, managing director, BIAL.
BIAL, as part of its ongoing efforts towards making the airport energy-efficient, has taken up several green initiatives in the past including water conservation and management. While these initiatives have been recognised and awarded at various industry forums, BIAL is committed towards adopting such best practices and set benchmarks across all functions at the airport.
