Centre in favour of international airport in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Union Civil Aviation Ministry in favour of upgrading the Biju Patnaik Airport at Bhubaneswar to international standard. Sources said Chief secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik held talks with Union secretary of civil aviation Syed Nasim Ahmed Zaidi in this regard in New Delhi during his three-day visit in connection with the chief secretaries' meet.

Zaidi responded positively to the demand of the chief secretary, official sources said. Principal secretary of home UN Behera also attended the meeting, where senior officials of the Union civil aviation were present.

Earlier state government demanded several time to upgrade Biju Patnaik Airport at Bhubaneswar to international standard as it is essential for the state's overall growth. It should be noted that expansion work of Biju Patnaik Airport nearing completion, it would be ready by June 2012. Chief secretary said the existing terminal can cater to the need of the international flights.
