Mumbai: Eight months after young pilot Jonathan Fernandes, who was said to be “heavily drunk”, fell to his death from a building in Delhi, his family in Mumbai is fighting to repair the damage done to his reputation.
The Borivali-based Fernandes family, have now received Jonathan’s final forensic report, which clearly states that he was not under the influence of alcohol.
A relieved but irked family have sent legal notices to the people Jonathan was partying with, as they had all told the police that Jonathan was drunk when he lost his balance and fell from the building terrace.
Jonathan, 24, was the drummer of the popular band Reverse Polarity. He had done a flying course in US, and was in Delhi for a pilot’s exam to earn him a licence to fly in India.
While in the capital, Jonathan was invited to a friend’s birthday bash in Rohini area on June 25 last year. Around 12.30 am, he allegedly fell from the terrace where the party was being held, and was taken to a nearby hospital where he passed away an hour later.
His family, who rushed to Delhi and brought his body back, were shocked to learn that his friends claimed he was “a drunkard”. With the post-mortem report proving inconclusive, there was little they could do but await the viscera report from Delhi. The report which clearly states “the deceased was not under the influence of alcohol”, is signed by Dr J V Kiran of the forensic medicine department in Delhi.
