ILS likely to become operational at Vijayawada by month-end

Vijayawada: The Instrument Landing System (ILS) will be available at the Gannavaram airport for commercial planes once the DGCA gives the go-ahead by month-end.
This will help different airlines in the country connect the city to metros other than Hyderabad, Bangalore, and New Delhi.
The Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which has been striving for development of the airport, in a letter to all the major airline companies invited them to operate new or additional flights.
Chamber president Muttavarapu Muralikrishna wrote to Air India, Kingfisher, SpiceJet, Jet Airways, and Indigo Air apprising them of the developments at the airport that include extending the runway to a length of 2,408 metre, construction of taxiway, and apron.
The number of passengers using the airport has been going up steadily.
