Kochi: The first phase of the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) will be inaugurated by chief minister Oommen Chandy on February 25.
Cochin International Aviation Services, a CIAL subsidiary, owns the Rs 42 crore facility. In the first phase, it will have two hangers with a capacity to service simultaneously two aircraft belonging to A-320 and B-737 classes. It will also house an aviation components workshop, a CIAL spokesman told TOI.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted the MRO facility, permission to carry out 'A' check of these aircraft. This is the mandatory maintenance every aircraft has to undergo after 100 days in operation, or putting in 600 flying hours or 750 flights circles, whichever is the earliest, before getting clearance for the next round of flying.
