Mandakalli Airport upgradation work: Minister to apprise CMi

Mysore: District In-charge Minister S.A. Ramdas has announced that he would meet the Chief Minister on Feb. 9 to apprise him on the pending works for the upgradation of Mandakalli Airport here.
He was addressing a meeting of top officials of District Administration at the Deputy Commissioner's office here today.
Pending works: Elaborating on the pending works for the upgradation of the airport, Ramdas said "A total of 145 acres of land has to be acquired and handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The present runway has to be extended to facilitate the flight of bigger aircraft. The National Highway 212 has to be re-routed for the expansion work and a proposal will be placed before the Government for its inclusion in the allocation of funds during the coming budget."
Bottlenecks:Referring to the bottlenecks and hindrances for the expansion work, Ramdas said that the mobile tower at Mandakalli and the Doordarshan tower atop Chamundi Hill may pose hindrance for the operation of flights and asked Mysore SP to look into the matter after discussion with Doordarshan officials. He also instructed the City Corporation officials to solve the menace of stray dogs and birds near the airport possibly initiated by the accumulation of dry garbage nearby.
