Panel for pay parity between AI, IA staff

New Delhi: The process of HR integration between employees of erstwhile Air India and Indian Airlines may now begin - a good five years after the two airlines were merged - with the government panel set up for this job submitting its report to aviation minister Ajit Singh on Tuesday.
Formed after last May's strike by IA pilots on the issue of pay parity with their AI counterparts, the report has recommended that pay of the national carrier employees be in line with the department of public enterprises (DPE) guidelines.
This essentially means that the allowances paid to employees should not be more than half of their basic pay. Pilots get performance-linked incentives, amounting to almost 80-85% of their total pay. It is learnt that the four-member panel, set up under former Supreme Court judge D M Dharmadhikari, have allowed continuance of payment of flying allowance to pilot. It has given a roadmap for career mapping in both the erstwhile IA and AI so that the employees could be brought on a similar platform and get similar career progression opportunities and the pay is rationalised.
