Spice Jet: Aviation ministry urged to take action

New Delhi: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on Wednesday asked the Ministry of Civil Aviation to make an urgent inquiry into the incident where a differently-abled woman was offloaded from a SpiceJet flight from Kolkata to Goa on Sunday after the pilot found her "unfit to fly".
Jeeja Ghosh, who is a teacher at Kolkata's Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy, was shocked when she was offloaded as the pilot did not allow her to fly alone.
Meanwhile, Sminu Jindal, MD, Jindal SAW & Chairperson, Svayam said, “This is not the first time that a disabled person has been harassed.. It’s very astonishing that even after so long; the airlines still follows the same procedure and are insensitive towards disabled people. It is very outrageous and inhuman."
"I share a similar experience with the Jet airways. In 2008, during my flight to Bangkok, I was asked either to sign an indemnity bond or deplane,“ Jindal said in a statement on Wednesday.
“And the recent incident with Ms. Ghosh, who was asked to boot off by the pilot thinking that she was mentally disabled, again highlights airlines’ apathetic attitude towards disabled passengers. We hope that airlines would wake up to this uncalled incident and would apologize to Ghosh. Going forward, we expect organizations to have sensitization workshop as a norm,” Jindal said.
