Air India cabin crew go on indefinite strike

New Delhi: In a fresh blow to ailing state-run Air India, the cabin crew has decided to go on an indefinite strike till their salaries are paid. Pilots and cabin crew of Air India have not received their salaries for the past three months.
In January, Air India had protested on non-payment of salaries. Following two days of protest, flight attendants had finally received a part of their pending sustenance allowance and salary.
On Tuesday, Aviation Minister, Ajit Singh said that Air India will proceed with its purchase of 27 of Boeing Co's 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Air India has placed an order with Boeing for as many as 50 long-range aircraft.
The cash-strapped airline is negotiating for nearly $1 billion as compensation from Boeing for delayed aircraft delivery.
The civil aviation ministry has defended Air India's plans to buy 27 Boeing 787 aircraft, saying the debt-ridden airline will gain $10-15 million from the sale-andleaseback of each aircraft.
