New Delhi: In an effort to align itself further with the market and to enhance its revenues, Air India is to reduce the number of business class seats that it has on the 34 Airbus variety of aircraft in its fleet.
It also plans to offer up to five floors of its iconic headquarters at Nariman Point on rent.
These two decisions were taken at the airline's board meeting held here recently. The board decided that from now the 14 A-320 aircraft in the fleet will only offer economy class seating. At the moment, the aircraft, which joined the fleet between 1989 and 1993, offer seating in business and economy classes. In addition, the 20 Airbus A-321 will henceforth offer only 12 seats in business class instead of the existing 20 seats. The two varieties of aircraft are primarily used to operate domestic flights and some operations to nearby international destinations like Bangkok, Colombo and West Asia.
