Airport tariff hike to increase Airlines fare

New Delhi: The proposal of the Delhi International Airport Limited(Dial) of 774 per cent hike in airport tariffs has come under heavy criticism of the Domestic and foreign airlines. The Airlines have warned that the hike in airport tariff could lead to an increase in Airlines fare.
According to the Dial officials, the proposal was not aimed at fetching profits but are reasonable charges that have not been increased in the last ten years except once by 10 per cent in 2009.
The Airlines in response to the proposal have clearly stated that the hike in aeronautical charges including navigation, air traffic control and other facilities being used by the Airlines at the airports will lead to an increase in the Airlines fares. This in turn could drive their customers away amid expenses.
In their representation before Airports Economic Regulatory Authority( AERA), they stated that this would lead the passengers to move away from the Delhi airport. The government has been urged to revisit its revenue-share mechanism by the Airlines.
