‘Funds for Chakan airport in state budget’

Pune: City MP and Airport Advisory Council (AAC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Friday said that allocation of funds for Chakan airport, which had been delayed for long, will be done in the coming state budget. Funds will be primarily used for land acquisition.
“I have discussed the issue with state government officials who have informed that monetary provision for Chakan airport has been made in the budget. In the first phase, this money would be used for land acquisition for the new airport,” said Kalmadi after an AAC meet, adding that focus now should be on developing the present airport while simultaneously pursuing the case of a new airport at Chakan.
Regarding additional land requirement and runway extension, he assured these will be discussed with appropriate authorities including the Defence Ministry, Civil Aviation Ministry, State Government and District Administration.
Kalmadi has asked the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to ensure adequate procurement of CCTV cameras and other security equipment for the airport plan.
