BIA to be named after founder of Bangalore, Kempe Gowda

Bangalore: The Centre has accepted the proposal to name Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) after Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bangalore.
In a statement here, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said the Civil Aviation Ministry had accepted the proposal to rename BIA, and the matter would be placed before the Union Cabinet for approval.
The proposal to name BIA after Kempe Gowda was submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who, in turn, forwarded it to the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Thanking Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh for accepting the proposal to rename the airport, Mr. Krishna said he would continue his efforts to secure early approval from the Union Cabinet for the same.
