Curb soaring airfare, DGCA urged

Mumbai: A week after an increase in development fees at Mumbai airport, a travel agent's association has approached the civil aviation ministry and the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) asking them to intervene and put brakes on soaring air tickets prices.
The association claims that this vacation season, ticket fares have increased by about 20-30% as compared to last year. According to officials, the increase has been due to various developments, some of which have happened in the last few weeks.
"Family travellers are facing a very tough time this season due to the unreasonable hike in airfares," said Iqbal Mulla, president, Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI)."If this situation continues, it will have a very lethal impact on tourism in the country," said Suhas Raje of Amar Tours and Travels.
