New Delhi: After commissioning of Terminal 3 in 2010, the total revenue per passenger increased while a substantial decline was recorded in total cost per passenger during the last fiscal as compared to previous year, a study by National Council for Applied Economic Research said.
"The total revenue per passenger increased from Rs 419 in 2008-09 to Rs 421 in 2010-11. On the other hand total cost per passenger declined substantially from Rs 195 in 2008-09 to Rs 188 in 2010-11," the first ever economic impact study of any airport in India by NCAER titled "Economic Impact Study of Delhi Airport" said.
The study also establishes the significant linkage of the Civil Aviation sector with the rest of the economy.
The construction of Terminal 3 of the IGI airport has contributed greatly to nation's as well as the state's economies by providing direct and indirect employment to thousands and earning revenues from various sources, it said.
Delhi airport handled 29.94 million passengers and ranked first in 2010-11 in the country after dislodging Mumbai which handled 29.07 million passengers, despite operating from its old terminal building.
