Ranchi: Chief minister Arjun Munda on Wednesday approved proposal for construction of a greenfield airport near Jamshedpur. The approval was given after a preliminary report on traffic flow from the steel city, which has some major industries including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Lafarge Cement and Timken, along with over 1200 small and medium scale industries.
The chief minister also ordered for the constitution of a high-powered committee under deputy commissioner of Seraikela-Kharsawan. The team has been asked to identify suitable land in the Gamharia locality of the city, which is close to the existing airport in Jamshedpur. The committee has been asked to submit details of the land, the number of families that will be displaced due to the project and the infrastructure facility.
