Jaipur: Sanganer Airport's Terminal-II features among country’s 20-odd hyper-sensitive airports, and rightly so. The threat perception here is one of the highest in the country, yet its security entirely relies on human eyes and dog senses — both susceptible to fatigue and thus, inappropriate for round-the-clock vigil.
At a time when close-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras are not only keeping a meticulous and continuous watch at airports across the country, but even in Jaipur's bustling markets and its 10X10 shops, Terminal-II of Jaipur Airport (which daily caters to 25 domestic flights) is functioning without operational CCTV cameras.
As reported earlier by DNA in its story on December 6, 2011, Terminal 2 has been functioning without CCTV cameras since it became operational in July 2009. The then airport director RK Singh had assured that the 63 cameras will not only be installed, but will also start functioning in two months.
On Tuesday, with nearly four months since Singh's promise, sources at the airport revealed that 50 of the total 63 CCTV cameras have been fitted at identified locations, but they are yet to become operational!
