Staff shortage hits Visakhapatnam airport

Visakhapatnam: Though the defence minister, Mr A.K. Antony, said that the Indian Navy does not have any objection to operate Vizag airport round-the-clock, staff shortage at the airport has hit the prospects of 24-hour operations.
It is learnt that it is the refusal of the Navy to operate the airport after 8 pm that has caused many airlines to cancel their plans to introduce services to global destinations as most of these flights operate at nights.
Vizag airport is controlled by the Indian Navy which carries out air traffic control and also provides support for flying operations for both military and the civil aviation department.
In an earlier instance during his last visit to the city, the defence minister categorically said that the Indian Navy does not have any objection to operate the airport round-the- clock, but skilled staff is a point of concern.
