As airfares cool, now's the time to take a break abroad

Mumbai: If you have not planned your summer holiday yet, do not delay. Now is the time to book your air ticket.
After a 20% rise in April, especially on popular routes to Southeast Asia, airfares have cooled off in recent days. But the good deals will not last long. Travel industry observers predict that international fares will again go up by a fifth after mid-May as the number of last-minute travellers increases towards the end of the summer vacations.
"In March, for travel in May on the Mumbai-Bangkok route, the cheapest return fare was Rs 13,000 ( IndiGo). In April, the cheapest return fare for the same dates in May was Rs 20,000," said Anoop Kanuga, director, Bathija Travels. On Friday, return fares on the route for travel next week started at Rs 18,000, lower by 10%. For travel two weeks from now, the fares are around Rs 16,000.
