Equity infusion in Air India linked to performance

New Delhi: The government has placed the onus of loss-making Air India's survival in the airline's own hands as an oversight committee would ensure that the company receives equity infusion only on achievement of performance milestones.
The committee would include SBI Chairman Pratip Chaudhuri and expenditure secretary Sumit Bose, among others.
"This committee is envisaged on the lines of the panel of corporate honchos who helped turn Satyam around. Only if the periodical reports prepared by this body indicate that Air India is meeting performance targets, will it get equity infusion from the government, not otherwise," a senior official from the ministry of civil aviation said.
