New Delhi: Civil aviation minister Ajit Singh on Monday met representatives of various Air India (AI) unions and urged them to help the government to resurrect the ailing airline. Except for the striking and de-recognised Indian Pilots Guilds (IPG), 13 recognised unions were invited to the meeting.
During the meeting in the afternoon, the minister urged all the unions to come forward and ensure that the ailing airline is resurrected. “Unions are an integral part of running the Air India and it is important that they work in tandem with the government and Air India management to ensure that the airline is brought out of its current crisis,” said an official in the aviation ministry.
This was the first official meeting between the minister and the unions since Ajit Singh took over the ministry.
However later in the evening, the AI management sacked 30 more striking pilots. “The services of 30 more pilots have been terminated,” AI spokesperson said. With this, the number of dismissed pilots owing allegiance to the Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) has gone up to 101.
