Madhya Pradesh's air cargo business dips in FY 2011-12

Indore: Air cargo business in Madhya Pradesh declined during the fiscal 2011-12, revealed a survey on the domestic freight conducted by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) at all the airports of the country. Air freight handling at Indore and Bhopal airports dipped 10.6% and 26.3% respectively during the period.
During the fiscal 2011-12, Indore airport handled 4,389 tonne of cargo as compared to 4,909 tonne the previous financial year. Similarly, the Bhopal airport transported 2011-12 only 806 tonne of air freight during the fiscal 2011-12 as compared to 1,093 tonne the previous year, states the AAI survey report.
Industrialists attribute to lack of competitive rates, longer time for the delivery of cargo, inconvenient service and absence of international cargo service as the main reasons for drastic dip in air cargo from state during 2011-12.
