MakeMyTrip, Yatra shift focus to hotels amid aviation crisis

New Delhi: The turbulence in the Indian aviation sector is forcing leading online travel sites like MakeMyTrip.com and Yatra.com to reduce dependence on business from air tickets and focus more on hotels and holiday packages.
"From around 70-80 per cent growth in air travel booking that the online travel companies saw last year, it has come down to a single digit this year," Yatra Online Pvt Ltd Co- Founder and CEO Dhruv Shringi told reporters on the sidelines of an event co-organised by TiE and Nasscom.
So there is a need to innovate and focus more on building hotels inventory, he said, adding at present there was a serious constraint of air inventory.
Stating similar concern, MakeMyTrip Founder and CEO Deep Kalra said online firms do not have control over the rising airfare and low inventory.
