'Separate seniority of AI, IA pilots'

Air India should continue to maintain two separate lines of seniority for pilots belonging to the pre-merger Indian Airlines and Air India, but pilots of both erstwhile carriers must be allowed to fly aircraft of all types, the Justice D M Dharmadhikari committee has recommended.
The Indian Pilots’ Guild (IPG), comprising pilots of erstwhile Air India, has been on a strike since May 8, claiming that the pilots’ career progression is under threat, and that they alone should fly the new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, ordered by Air India before the creation of the merged national carrier.
The Dharmadhikari committee was set up in March 2011, after pilots belonging to the Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association (ICPA), a union of erstwhile Indian Airlines pilots, went on strike.
