SpiceJet to spread wings to six new overseas destinations

New Delhi: Budget carrier SpiceJet is planning to expand international operations in a big way this year as it has got government approval to fly to six new destinations. The low-cost airline will add 63 overseas flights per week to its schedule this season. This would lead to a five-fold increase from 14 flights a week at present.
The Kalanithi Maran-owned airline will soon add destinations such as Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Male, Kabul, Dubai and Bangkok to its schedule. The airline, at present, flies to only two foreign cities of Kathmandu and Colombo.
"We have given approvals for SpiceJet's requests for overseas flights. They are supposed to commence operations from the current summer schedule as we understand," a senior official from the civil aviation ministry told ET.
