1.4 acres slums evicted by AAI

Mumbai: Authorities at the Juhu Aerodrome have taken over around 1.4 acres of land, owned by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) by evicting slum-dwellers in Nehru Nagar. Officials said that the slums were posing a major security threat and residents would roam around the airport premises in an inebriated state and even consume drugs. “They could easily enter the airport land and head to the runway. We also don’t have any security so they can breach the boundary walls virtually undetected. We don’t have anything against slum dwellers but the decision to take back the land was practical,” said a senior Juhu airport official.
