AAI may relocate Airport Colony staff to other quarters

Mumbai: The Airports Authority of India has “tentatively” agreed to relocate around 150 families of airport employees living in the New Airport Colony in Sahar to the senior officers’ quarters in Anderi’s Parshiwada area. The employees had been protesting evacuation notices the AAI served them for the construction of a cargo terminal there.
The Airport Authority Employees Union has alleged that the AAI did not take into consideration that it would no longer have legal control over the land when it handed it over to GVK. An AAEU office-bearer said, “They knew this colony, built exclusively for their employees, would no longer be under their control after the privatisation but did not make alternative arrangements. This violates the Airports Authority Act.”
