Acquitted of raping his ex, Jet pilot speaks of his two-year nightmare

For Jet Airways pilot Varun Agarwal, breaking up with his airhostess girlfriend turned out to be more painful than he expected. On May 30, 2010, forty days after what he recalls as "an amicable" end to the two-year relationship, he was arrested and put behind bars on charges of rape and criminal intimidation, and then was forced to sit at home without job for 14 months, not to mention the acute humiliation of being labeled a rapist.
Two years after his arrest at the Mumbai domestic airport by the Powai police, Agarwal walked free of all charges on Tuesday when the air-hostess withdrew the case because she had found a partner and wanted to move on with her life.
According to the case files, the woman had registered an FIR with Powai police station on May 27, 2010 accusing the pilot of repeatedly raping her during the course of their two-year-long live-in relationship. Her complaint had stated that Agarwal cheated her into giving a consent to a physical relationship by promising to marry her.
