Air India's striking pilots to go on hunger strike

New Delhi: The striking pilots of erstwhile Air India, who have been on strike since May 7, have now decided to go on fast in Delhi and Mumbai from Sunday. In Delhi, eight members of the striking Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG) will sit on fast for at least 48 hours from Sunday at Jantar Mantar and a similar stir would be launched at Mumbai's Azad Maidan from a day later. Striking pilots say the fats would not be indefinite and that the protestors whose health deteriorates would be replaced by new pilots who would then sit in their place.
About 400 members of IPG went on strike to protest the airline management's decision to send pilots of erstwhile Indian Airlines for training on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner which is yet to join the fleet. This move, claims IPG, would affect their career progression in terms of the time taken for them to get promoted to commander from co-pilot rank.
