Chakan-Rajgurunagar airport land proposal to be submitted to GA next week

Pune: Even as the state government has allocated funds for airports in the state, the land acquisition plan for the proposed international airport in Chakan-Rajgurunagar area in Pune is yet to reach the General Administration (GA) department, under which the state civil aviation department functions.
The GA department maintains that to take the airport plan forward, they need the land acquisition plan from the Pune district administration.
“We understand the importance of an international airport in Pune. We are waiting for the Pune divisional commissioner and Pune district collector to submit the plan for land acquisition. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is the nodal agency that will develop the airport,’’ said deputy secretary, General Administration, RT Jadhav.
The district administration said the delay was caused after the government first sought acquisition of 1,600 hectares and later 2,100 hectares.
