Tiruchi: Although international status is expected to give a push for strengthening the infrastructure of the Tiruchi airport, the tardy progress in land acquisition for the expansion of runway and the perceived neglect of the city by national carriers remain major concerns for the travel industry here.
Expectedly, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's announcement on according international status to the airport has been widely welcomed.
“It is very good news as the city would attract more flights as many international carriers are already eyeing the Tiruchi market. It would also help the economy of the region, especially tourism,” observed M.S.Paramasivam, Chairman, South India Chapter, Travel Agents Association of India.
