New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given a deadline of June 15 to the Bihar government to decide on the removal of about 2,000 trees around the Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna. The trees are proving to be a “major obstacle” in aircraft operations.
The Airports Authority of India has asked for an alternate site so that they do not incur losses as bigger aircraft cannot operate from there. Several pilots have complained about the short runway and operational problems they face while landing and take off.
“The issue has been raised with the Bihar government and we asked them to decide on the issue by June 15. We have been highlighting the problem since January. There are certain operational adjustments that need to be made,” said DGCA chief Bharat Bhushan.
