Gaur scare at Mangalore airport runway

Mangalore: An Indian gaur ran helter skelter at Bajpe airport here and gave the airport authorities a harrowing time. Finally, thanks to the combined efforts of CISF, AAI, the forest department and the local wildlife warden’s office, the animal was chased into the wilderness. “The incident caused no disruption of air traffic at the airport,” airport director MR Vasudeva said.
The drama began at 8.45am, when a team of runway supervisors were on their way to the routine ‘runway check’. The animal, which had strayed into the perimeter wall, was standing in a corner close to the runway. Alarmed at the sight, the officials tried to chase it away, but the gaur started running all over the place and gave them harrowing time.
