Juhu can take load off airport

New Delhi: The civil aviation ministry is thinking of using the aerodrome in Juhu to take the load off the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
Experts are looking into the possibility of developing the aerodrome to handle smaller aircraft, Ajit Singh, aviation minister, told DNA on Wednesday.
Singh, who was in Mumbai on Monday to review the renovation and development of the international airport, said the Maharashtra government had formed a special task force, headed by the chief secretary, to expedite the work as well as study how to get rid of slums around the airport area.
Since the rehabilitation of slum dwellers is still pending, the renovation work is happening in fits and starts. Unsure of when it would get over, authorities, along with the ministry, have started looking for alternatives — the Juhu aerodrome being one.
