New Delhi: Troubled national carrier Air India today set in motion a major HR restructuring process that could lead to pay cuts of about 37,000 employees.
Civil aviation minister Ajit Singh today made public the recommendations of a committee on staff integration in Air India and the erstwhile Indian Airlines consequent to their merger in 2007 — and one of the suggestions is scrapping productivity-linked incentive, which is a major component of the salary of the employees.
The Justice D.M. Dharmadhikari committee has also recommended curtailing free and subsidised tickets for staff and their family members and implementing a voluntary retirement scheme.
Besides, the committee wants uniform pay scales for all employees of erstwhile Indian Airlines and Air India.
The national carrier will save Rs 250 crore if the new pay structure is brought into force.
