Surat: The night landing facilities installed at Surat airport in 2009 will hopefully begin to be fully utilized as a few private airlines have drawn up plans to operate night flights connecting the city to other destinations from June 21 onwards.
Private carrier SpiceJet, which already operates on this sector, has decided to connect Surat with Calicut of Kerala via Mumbai. This night flight will be a regular feature from the city airport. Airport controller R D Shendre said, "The Mumbai-Surat flight of SpiceJet that used to land in the city at 3.20 pm will now arrive from Mumbai at 7.30 pm and depart at 8 pm."
Surat airport spread on 319 hectares of land at present has connectivity to Mumbai, Delhi and Mangalore. Now, Calicut will get connected to the city. The same flight of this airline will be extended from Mangalore to Calicut.
