Patna: A group comprising 10 persons has been deployed to prune trees up to 15 metres from their roots at the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, popularly also known as zoo. In three days, they have pruned 12 trees which were more than 20 metres in height.
According to park authorities, 2,917 trees were identified by the Airport Authority of India for pruning. At a meeting held by the departments concerned on March 31, it was decided that the trees would be divided in eight sectors according to their heights.
"As the park is a protected forest, authorities can't uproot any tree on their own. At a meeting between the Airports Authority of India and the secretary, environment and forest department, Bihar government, it was decided that the pruning work should be started immediately," a senior official of the park said.
