Roads? Mumbai’s air traffic woes as bad

Mumbai: Heavy air traffic congestion over the Mumbai airport during peak hours has kept both passengers and airlines distraught.
Assessment of the latest DGCA figures by experts states that one of the primary reasons for the poor On-Time Performance of airlines is congestion.
Mumbai airport is considered among the busiest airports in Asia with passenger traffic of around 30 million passengers, which is growing at a pace of over 14%. Aviation experts say that traffic congestion reaches its peakduring the evening hours and result in quite a few planes hovering over the airport, waiting for the signal to land. For passengers, it means an endless wait while for airlines, the burning fuel costs crores of rupees.
On-Time Performance (OTP) is one of the important parameters to judge the efficiency of an airline, and Mumbai airport holds top position among the six metros as far poor OTP goes.
